The Provident Prospector Series includes a total of four designs. None of the designs had a mintage cap. Instead, we’ve opted to have the rounds struck for a limited period of time while demand exists and then production of each comes to an end. This Prospector design helped launch the collection and was followed by the Gunslinger, Pony Express, and Can Can Girl designs.

Obverse

Prospectors set out for the American West in the late 1840s following the discovery of gold in California. While the California Gold Rush was largely limited to 1848 and 1849, that wasn’t the end of the westward movement of American families and prospectors. Silver discoveries in Nevada and later gold discoveries in the Yukon Territories of Canada and the US territory of Alaska led more and more people west in hopes of a fresh start and vast riches.

Reverse

For the reverse of each 1 oz Silver Provident Prospector Round, the sleepy western town returns as well. This design showcase the classic western main street. A single dirt road down the middle of the two is the hub of activity as the saloon and local hotel are connected by boardwalks. In this design, everyday people go about their business walking to and from school, the store, and work.
