Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Brilliant Uncirculated
Royal Canadian MintThe 1 oz. Silver Maple Leaf was introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) in 1988, marking the tenth anniversary of the Gold Maple Leaf series. The silver coin is minted with that same iconic maple leaf imagery developed for the gold series in 1979.
- This Maple Leaf bullion coin is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .9999 fine silver.
- The coin measures 37.97 mm in diameter.
- The coin has been treated with the RCM's innovative MintShield, which reduces the probability of white spot development on the surface.
- The reverse features a small maple leaf security mark, which is micro-engraved with the coin's two digit date of issue "21."
Obverse: The obverse features the right facing effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The background, a radial line patterned security field, contains the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "5 DOLLARS". The portrait, designed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, has appeared on Canadian coinage since 2003.
Reverse: The reverse features a beautifully rendered sugar maple leaf, an emblem synonymous with Canada. Inscriptions include "CANADA," "FINE SILVER 1 OZ. ARGENT PUR" and the coin's purity "9999" on each side of the leaf. The iconic maple leaf design is an example of the artistry of Walter Ott, the RCM's Master Engraver and Director of Art in 1979.
