Obverse features Paul Kruger, South Africa’s first president, along with “South Africa” in Afrikaans and English.The reverse depicts a Springbok antelope, the national animal of South Africa, along with the year of minting, face value and Silver weight. Although it is not marked, the coins are .999 fine.

In 2018, the South African Mint decided to make the Silver Krugerrand a permanent fixture in its bullion series. The 2017 issue year had seen the mint issue the first-ever Krugerrand in silver, but that coin was a Premium Uncirculated option with a special striking process and done only for the 50^th anniversary of the series that year. Starting with 2018, the mint issued the Silver Krugerrand as a new fixture in the bullion market.
